Desktop AI assistants typically rely on a single model and a fixed set of capabilities. OsirisBrain works differently: it deploys 12 specialized AI professionals (programmer, designer, writer, accountant, tech support, and more) that run locally on macOS, Windows, Linux, and Raspberry Pi, with persistent memory across sessions and over 100 built-in tools for desktop automation. The platform connects to 15+ AI providers including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and DeepSeek using your own API keys.

The 12 AI Professionals
Each professional has a specialized system prompt tuned for its domain. You select the right specialist for the task, or build your own using the Custom Skill Builder:
| Professional | Domain | Common Tasks |
|---|---|---|
| Programmer | Software development | Code generation, debugging, refactoring, deployment |
| Designer | Visual design | UI feedback, color palettes, layout critique |
| Writer | Content creation | Drafting, editing, formatting, style consistency |
| Accountant | Financial tasks | Calculations, spreadsheet work, tax-related questions |
| Tech Support | Troubleshooting | System diagnostics, configuration help |
| Custom (build your own) | Any domain | Define behavior with custom prompt fragments |
The chief agent, Osiris, coordinates across professionals — delegating tasks to the right specialist and maintaining consistency across the team.
Cortex Memory System
Most AI agents start every conversation from scratch. OsirisBrain implements a brain-inspired memory architecture with six layers:
- Semantic Memory (what it knows) — facts, identity, project details, preferences. Permanent knowledge that persists without re-prompting.
- Episodic Memory (what happened) — conversations and decisions, timestamped and searchable. You can ask "what did we discuss about the API last Tuesday?" and get an answer.
- Procedural Memory (how to do things) — workflows and patterns the agent learns from you, like how you deploy or structure commits.
- Emotional Context (what matters) — importance tagging where critical priorities are recalled first and low-priority memories fade naturally.
- Active Commitments (what it must do) — tracked tasks and deadlines; the agent greets you with a briefing of pending work.
- Decision Engine (when to act alone) — risk-scored autonomous decisions where routine tasks run automatically and high-impact actions require approval.
The entire memory system runs on local SQLite storage and exports as a single .osiris file for transfer between machines.
Six-Layer Security Model
Every AI instruction passes through six security layers before execution:
| Layer | Function |
|---|---|
| Crystal Cage | Filesystem, process, and network whitelist — only approved paths are accessible |
| AI Firewall | Scans prompts and responses for injection patterns; catches dangerous commands |
| Permission Semaphore | Actions classified Green/Yellow/Red; Red-level operations require explicit user approval |
| Allowlist Guardrails | Pattern validation rejects overly broad permissions |
| Risk Scoring | Every command scored 1-10 before execution; high-risk flagged visually |
| File Snapshots | Automatic backups before destructive file operations; one-click undo |
This security model is more granular than alternatives like Cursor or Cline, which offer only basic execution approval.
Free vs Paid
| Plan | Price | Daily Hours | Key Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 forever | 3 hours/day (resets midnight) | All 12 professionals, vision, 3-layer security, no payment |
| Annual | $99/year | Unlimited | Auto-updates, watchdog auto-restart, priority support, single device |
Both tiers include all 12 professionals, the full Cortex Memory System, 100+ tools, multi-provider support, voice input, and remote chat access from any browser.
Areas for Improvement
- Requires your own API keys — OsirisBrain doesn’t include AI model access; you need API keys from OpenAI, Anthropic, or other providers, which incur separate costs
- Single device license — the paid plan covers one machine; users with multiple workstations need separate licenses
- Data ownership terms are unusual — the Terms of Service require users to transfer ownership of "ALL Algorithmic Outputs" for distributed neural training, and system telemetry is collected for architectural evaluation. Users waive rights to restrict, audit, or delete this data once embedded into neural architectures.
- $1.00 USD liability cap — the company’s total liability for any claims is capped at one dollar, regardless of damages
- 3-hour daily limit on free tier — the agent knows how much time remains and plans accordingly, but 3 hours may not cover extended work sessions
- No mobile native app — remote access works through a browser, but there’s no dedicated iOS or Android application
